Gallagher Girls author to sign books nearby; book up for grabs

If you (or your kids) are fans of the Disney-Hyperion young adult (YA) Gallagher Girls series, I have the fifth book to give away ... and it's not even released yet.

Up for grabs is "Out of Sight, Out of Time," by Ally Carter (Disney-Hyperion; March 13, 2012; $16.99).

And, if you're really a fan, perhaps you'll venture to one of the author's booksignings in the area next week.

Carter, a New York Times bestselling YA author, will be making a tour stop in the Philadelphia area at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Barnes & Noble on Commerce Boulevard (in The Court at Oxford Valley shopping center between Route 1 and Business Route 1) in Fairless Hills.

With her at the Fairless Hills appearance will be Rachel Hawkins, author of the Hex Hall YA series. Hawkins is touring in support of "Spell Bound," the third book in the Hex Hall series.

Carter will also be appearing at the PLA Convention-Young Adult Author Lunch in Philadelphia on March 15., and at Children's Book World, 17 Haverford Station, Haverford, at 7 p.m. on March 16.

According to Disney-Hyperion, more than 1.8 million copies of the Gallagher Girls books are in print, and editions have been sold in 15 territories worldwide.

About the book (from the publisher):
"Girls have embraced Carter’s heroine, Cameron Morgan, the teenage spy-in-training who will recall the heroines of Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Veronica Mars for her pluck and determination.  And like Sydney Bristoe, Buffy and Veronica, even as she outwits and battles the bad guys, Cameron faces the same common struggles and stresses that all girls deal with when it comes to boys, friends, parents, and school, and so she’s totally relatable to young women.

This latest book reflects both the maturing of Cameron Morgan, and the series’ fans, with its darker, more intense storyline and more worldly themes about growing up and coping with adulthood."

The last thing Cammie Morgan remembers is leaving the Gallagher Academy to protect her friends and family from the Circle of Cavan — an ancient terrorist organization that has been hunting her for over a year. But when Cammie wakes up in an alpine convent and discovers that months have passed, she must face the fact that her memory is now a black hole. The only traces left of Cammie’s summer vacation are the bruises on her body and the dirt under her nails, and all she wants is to go home.

Once she returns to school, however, Cammie realizes that even the Gallagher Academy now holds more questions than answers. Cammie, her friends, and mysterious spy-guy Zach must face their most difficult challenge yet as they travel to the other side of the world, hoping to piece together the clues that Cammie left behind. It’s a race against time. The Circle is hot on their trail and willing stop at nothing to prevent Cammie from remembering what she did last summer.

Visit the series’ new fan interactive site, which features exclusive Web-only Gallagher Girl short stories and members-only intel. The site complements the author’s relationship with her almost 14,000 Twitter followers and 12,000 Facebook fans. In its first week, the site had more than 10,000 unique visitors and almost 6,000 people “join” the academy.
