Norristown veterinarian publishes picture book to save her favorite park

A new children's picture book, "Bark! Bark! Bark for My Park!" was released Dec. 1 by Norristown veterinarian and conservation educator Jessica Dimuzio with "help" from her 5-pound Papillon dog, Johnny Angel.

According to a press release for the book, "Together these best friends, who live in Norristown, PA, began a grassroots campaign to save their beloved 690-acre Norristown Farm Park from development in 2000."

Dimuzio says Johnny Angel is the hero of her story, helping her to obtain 4,000 signatures on a petition that lead to the "successful ending of this story."

"Bark! Bark! Bark for My Park!" by Jessica Dimuzio, VMD, and Johnny Angel, $15.95, available at: www.naturetalesandtrails, independent bookstores and Amazon.com, is illustrated by nature photographer Timothy Wood. The book is available for purchase locally at Towne Book Center & Cafe, Collegeville; Chester County Book & Music Company, West Chester; and Children's Book World, Haverford.

Prior to publication, "Bark! Bark! Bark for My Park!" earned the international Kimberly Colen Grant Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. The story will resonate with animal lovers, conservationists, and kids of all ages. Actress and animal activist Betty White said the book is a delight: "As well as falling in love with Johnny Angel, the environmental message is invaluable. Thank you so very much."

"Charming, funny, and ultimately inspiring...Kids will identify with Johnny Angel, cheer his victory, and learn valuable lessons about conservation through the tale of this little hero," said Marvin Terban, teacher and award-winning author of more than 37 children's books.

Here's an adorable sample page from the book:
